Description of Work:
Mallet was influenced by art of the Chartres Cathedral and was inspired to reproduce the seraph with nine eyes for vision, in each wing, copied from one of Chartres cathedral’s stained glass windows. She also created his companion playing music to bookend the rose window.

Artist Statement:
The mural was designed through consultation with the community members of St Alban’s Church and after conducting research into 12th century Chartres Cathedral in France which houses the original labyrinth upon which the Richmond labyrinth is based. The mural contains a central message, “You Are Here,” with its circle reflecting the labyrinth below. more »
