Description of Work:
The artwork for the Steveston Interurban Tram Building is integrated directly into the floor of the outdoor covered platform. Visitors may walk onto an approximately 25’ x 14’ representation of the 1956 BC Electric interurban tram map extending from Steveston north to the Fraser River. The roads, station names and street names—cut into the plaza pavement— enable visitors to situate the old stations relative to the Richmond of today.

Artist Statement:
Mia Weinberg creates public art that explores connections between the places where we live,
personal memories, and our collective civic and cultural stories. Based on a 1956 map of the
tram route from Steveston to Marpole, Back on Track in Steveston is carved into the concrete
platform of the Interurban Tram Building.
