Description of Work:
A mural of illustrative images on a light blue background. Each image is placed within a ¼, ½
or full circle, the grid fits within three rows and eleven columns. The mural palette consists of
yellow, red, white, turquoise, blue and light blue. The illustrations are icons that represent the
cultural identity of the current student population at Byng Elementary School and the Japanese
community history in Steveston.
Artist Statement:
This mural is a collaboration between the students at Lord Byng Elementary School, Kelvin Higo, representing the Steveston Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and Phil Phil Studio, Erica and Maddy Phillips. This artwork celebrates the rich history and diversity of the Lord Byng Elementary School community.
