Artist Statement:
Gary Point historically had a very large tree that was used for maritime navigation prior to a large flood in the early 1900’s which washed the tree away, it was known as “the Gary Point Tree” . Although the tree depicted is an arbutus, it is believed the Gary Point Tree was a fir. April Lacheur’s image was chosen for the reference to the historic tree but depicts brown grassy land, river and mountains behind, similar to Gary Point location.
