Description of Work:
Images of Richmond’s unique geography and natural history are laser-inscribed on two bridge-like structures. Three additional pieces depict surveying instruments.
Artist Statement:
"Span" consists of two distinct elements.
The first element is a large bridge-like structure that supports multiple stainless steel layers, each with laser-incised drawings. The drawings describe images of weather, clouds, cannery buildings, bridges, reeds, plants, tidal pools and interpretations of the microscopic organic material.
