Monique Genton

Victoria, Canada

Biography

Monique Genton completed her BFA at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and an MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited across Canada and the US and has received awards in both countries for her mixed media paintings and installation work. Influenced by her experience of growing up in a 1960’s cul-de-sac subdivision, Genton’s recent bodies of work titled The Grass Project–Garden City, Tidy, and Low Rise examine the dysfunctional role that nature plays in our built environment. The landscape design of parking lots, commercial buildings and mid-century low-rise apartment buildings are the subject matter of her current paintings.
