Gateway Theatre is a welcoming, inclusive, culturally diverse professional theatre for Metro Vancouver audiences and communities, producing fresh, vital, and relevant work that connects us to each other and to the world around us. Gateway Theatre runs the Gateway Academy, established in 1991 to offer year-round acting, musical theatre, and performance training classes for youth aged 6 to 18; and offers professional venue rental, management and staffing services. Gateway Theatre is managed and operated by the Richmond Gateway Theatre Society, a registered charity and not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1982, and is generously supported by the City of Richmond.
The cornerstones of our business are:
Gateway Theatre Productions
Gateway Theatre presents six full productions each season, including musicals, comedies, dramas, new works, and works in translation on the 520-seat MainStage and in the 89-seat Studio B. In addition to the Gateway Theatre Pacific Festival, a showcase of world-class contemporary theatre from Asia and Canada that includes surtitled work in languages other than English. See Gateway Theatre's website for further details.
Gateway Academy for the Performing Arts
Gateway Academy, established in 1991, offers year-round classes and summer camps on acting, musical theatre, speech, and singing for youth aged 6-18. Professional actors, directors, vocal coaches, playwrights, and choreographers are engaged as instructors, teaching skills that enrich students in performance and in life. See www.gatewaytheatre.com/academy for further details.
Gateway Theatre offers professional venue management and staffing services. Rent the 520-seat MainStage, the 89-seat Studio B, or the sprung-floor Studio A for shows, presentations, meetings and receptions. See Gateway Theatre Rentals for further details.
As a large theatre company, we play an important role in the mentoring of selected young companies, providing them with artistic support and mentorship, rehearsal space, performance space, and administrative assistance.
We provide opportunities for youth to experience the magic of live theatre through sponsored performances and outreach programs designed to introduce them to career opportunities in the arts. We support other charities through ticket donations.
