Writer-in-Residence
Richmond’s Writer-in-Residence Program delivers hands-on programming for local emerging and aspiring writers. The annual residency position runs from September through November each year and is a partnership between Richmond Arts, Culture and Heritage Services, Minoru Seniors Society and Richmond Public Library.
Richmond's 2022 Writer-In-Residence - Lindi Nolte
The City of Richmond was delighted to host the launch of Culture Days and Lindi Nolte’s residency on Saturday, September 24 at the Richmond Cultural Centre. Audience members were immersed in the world of her spoken word poetry at this official opening event.
Throughout her residency, Lindi will host consultation and feedback sessions to provide feedback and consultation (registration requested), and free workshops (registration required) including:
- Nature and Poetry
- Writing Circles
- Spoken Word Writing Workshop: Express Your Mess!
- Spoken Word Poetry for Teens
- Conversations
On Wednesday, November 30, the Writer-in-Residence program will officially close with a free public event from 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Richmond Cultural Centre. Participants from the residency will offer readings of their work, and Lindi will offer a feature reading of new works to commemorate the finale event.

Focus on developing a deeper sense of gratitude and a stronger relationship with nature utilizing meditative writing exercises that involve using all five senses to explore the beauty, strangeness and interconnectedness of life: from tracing leaves on paper and writing on the contours of the veins, to picking up pebbles and writing about the weight of existence, to closing eyes and tuning in to the sounds of wind and birds.

Spoken Word Poetry for Teens (12-18 years)

This two-part workshop is an introduction to this popular art form that combines storytelling, rap, performing, music and more. Using writing exercises and spoken word poetry tools and techniques, participants will work on creating a first draft of their own poem over two sessions
Spoken Word Writing Workshop: Express Your Mess! (16+ years)
3 sessions: Wed, Nov 2, 9, 16

This three-part workshop is an opportunity for participants to dive into the “messy” parts of themselves (things they may think of as mistakes or flaws), and learn ways to express their vulnerabilities utilizing spoken word poetry tools. Through writing exercises, vocal exercises, and physical performance techniques, participants will learn how to trust their voice and share their writing out loud. Themes of self-love, forgiveness, understanding and creativity will be explored.
