Schools of the 1980s and Beyond
Spul’u’kwuks Elementary (2000- ) was built to serve the new housing development in the exclusive Terra Nova Estates. The school was slated to become Richmond’s first year-long school (balanced timetable) in the fall of 2004.

The school’s name is borrowed from the vocabulary of the coastal Salish nation. Literally translated, it means "a place of bubbling waters." Because the First Nations people of the northwest had established seasonal settlements on Lulu Island near the school site for the purpose of fishing, the school was named in honour of these first settlers.
