Saturday, May 29 - By-Election day in Richmond

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 29) is General Voting Day for the Richmond By-Election. Eligible Richmond voters will head to the polls to choose one Councillor to fill a vacancy from November 2020.

Voters can cast their ballot for one of 10 candidates at any of the 10 locations between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. View the list of the voting places. NOTE: Richmond City Hall is NOT a voting location on May 29 and remains closed.

Voters who registered for a mail ballot can avoid lineups and drop their completed envelope at any of the 10 locations on General Voting Day, or at the drop box at Richmond City Hall.

To respect privacy and the election process, photographs, videos and audio recordings – including selfies – are not permitted inside the voting place. People are welcome to take a selfie outside and post it with the hashtag #rmdelxn to encourage your community to vote.

The City of Richmond uses automated vote counting machines. Beginning soon after the polls close at 8 p.m., a regular feed of unofficial election results will be available on the City’s website as counting progresses.

Due to COVID-19, City Hall will not be open to media and public as was the case in previous elections.

In accordance with the Local Government Act, results posted on the night of Saturday, May 29 will remain unofficial until Wednesday, June 2 between 3 and 4 p.m.
