Child Development Instructor

Applications are now being accepted for a substitute Child Development Instructor position with West Richmond Community Association’s Licensed Out-of-School Care Programs.  
This position reports to the Child Development Supervisors, participates in supervising, interacting and building relationships with children, as well as assists and leads the program on a day to day basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate children’s programs that address the needs of the child: socially, physically, intellectually, creatively and emotionally.
Ensure program is creative, flexible, inclusive and adaptable.
Prepare and assist children with eating afternoon snack.
Act as a liaison between program and schools.
Greet and inform families and ensure proper pick up procedure.
Maintain and follow licensing, safety, emergency protocols and procedures.
Participate in meetings with families as well as association sponsored events.
Communicate with other program instructors.
Attend regular staff meetings and training sessions.
Report suspected child abuse, endangerment and neglect to Supervisor.
Clean and maintain room and all equipment.
Monitor children in indoor and outdoor activities.
Record relevant information pertaining to children and families in program communication book.
Fill out accident and incident report forms.
Other related duties as assigned and may vary according to program.

Required Qualifications

Completed a course, or a combination of courses, or work experiences of at least 20 hours in child development, guidance, health and safety, nutrition or other childcare related topics.
19+ years of age.
Immunization Record.
Standard or Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C (or higher).
Successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal record check.
Upon hiring, attain BCRPA High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working with children that require extra support.
Class 4 Driver’s licence.
Second language.
Experience with cultural diversity.

Hours

Substitute , part-time afternoon shifts:  typically 2:00-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
Additional hours available during Pro D Days, Winter Break, and Spring Break periods.

Compensation and Benefits
$15.83/hour
