- The City of Richmond Group Home Task Force was formed by a Council resolution on March 12, 2001. The Group Home Task Force held its first meeting on May 8, 2001
- The focus of the Group Home Task Force is to formulate and recommend a Group Homes Policy that will outline a process for the establishment of any new group homes consisting of seven to ten individuals in the City of Richmond.
- Further, the mandate of the Group Home Task Force is to:
- Inquire into the negative and/or positive impact on the community of existing group homes;
- Educate and inform the community about the role and operation of the various type of group homes;
- Recommend a model for citizen/community input into the location and operation of group homes; and,
- Recommend a City process for the consideration of new group homes in Richmond.
- The Task Force has a ten members and is comprised as follows:
- Three nominated by the Association of Richmond Homeowners
- Two nominated by the Richmond Community Services Advisory Council
- One member nominated for the Vancouver-Richmond Health Board
- Four representatives chosen at random from the City of Richmond.
- The Group Home Task Force will seek community input through a series of public meetings. The exact number and location of the meetings will first be reviewed at an upcoming meeting of the Task Force on Thursday, June 14, 2001. In addition, a half hour will be set aside at each meeting of the Task Force to take questions and comments from the public.
- In order to gather research and data, the Task Force will also invite and accept presentations from group home operators in Richmond, other municipalities in the Lower Mainland and other interested individuals who represent organizations that would like to contribute to this discussion. To make a presentation, organizations should submit a request to Aidan Cameron at 276-4208 at Richmond City Hall.
- The Group Home Task Force will report to the City by September 30, 2001
