City Grant Program

The City of Richmond supports the enhancement of a positive quality of life for all its residents, and City Council recognizes that one means of helping to achieve this goal is through an annual Grant Program to support the work of community service groups.

The objectives of the Grant Program are:

  • To improve the quality of life of Richmond residents through a wide range of beneficial community group programs
  • To assist primarily Richmond based community groups to provide more beneficial programs, to more residents
  • To build community group capacity to deliver programs
  • To promote partnerships and financial cost sharing among the City, other funders and community groups.

In July 2011, Richmond City Council adopted a City Grant Policy establishing three separate grant programs:

2012 Health, Social and Safety & Parks, Recreation and Community Events Grant Program
For the 2012 Health, Social and Safety, & Parks, Recreation and Community Events Grant Programs, the following program submission requirements and application forms are in effect (same documents for both programs). Please indicate on the forms which one of the programs you are applying for. Applicants may only apply to one program per year.

As endorsed by Council, application requirements have been streamlined for requests of $5,000 or less (see Submission Requirements, below).

As part of the new Policy, applicants who have received City Grants for the five most recent consecutive years are eligible to apply for a three-year funding cycle. Approval for three-year cycles will be staggered so that approximately one-third of multi-year requests will be recommended to begin this cycle in 2012, prioritizing applicants who have received City Grants for the longest period.
