Street Banner Program

The City of Richmond is widening the scope of the 2011 Richmond Street Banner Contest to include visual arts from the following categories:

  • photography 
  • digital art
  • collage
  • painting
  • illustration
  • printmaking
The addition of these new visual art categories allows for more community members to participate in the contest and to submit their creative vision of Richmond.

Banner Themes
There are five thematic zones designated within the City Centre for banner installation. Each zone has a specific theme and they are:
  • Parks and Nature
  • Transportation
  • Active Living
  •  Arts, Culture and Heritage
  • City Centre
Within each of the themes are keywords and/or descriptors that may inspire your creative process and visual artworks. The themes are not limited to the inspirational keywords below, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Be creative in how you approach each zone!
  • Parks and Nature:
    • trees, flowers, open spaces
    • wildlife
    •  playing and park activities
  • Transportation:
    •  river and ocean transportation
    • Canada Line and trains
    • cycling
  • Active Living:
    • rowing, walking, sports
    • gardening
    • Richmond Oval and Community Centres
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage:
    • heritage sites, buildings and people
    • music, dance, pottery, weaving
    •  rural and agricultural past such as farming, horse racing
  • City Centre:
    • sustainable living
    • food, entertainment and events
    • great places and spaces, architecture
The Street Banner Contest opens for entries on September 6 and closes at 5pm on October 31, 2011.

In the document, you will be provided with all the guidelines and technical specifications required to enter your banner contest design. Please note: submission requirements are very strict and specific. Due to the anticipated volume of entries for this contest, any entries not meeting the submission requirements will automatically be rejected.
