New Immigrants
The City has developed several initiatives to help new immigrants successfully settle in Richmond. For example:- The City's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services (PRCS) Department coordinates orientation tours for new immigrants to City facilities. These tours, which take place on average twice a month, are held in partnership with a number of immigrant-serving agencies and social service partners. The tours orientate newcomers to recreational and cultural activities, the range of services offered by the City and its partners, and how to access these opportunities. The tours also introduce new Canadians to municipal government - what it does and why. For more information about the tours, contact Alan Hill, Cultural Diversity Coordinator.
- In partnership with the Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee, PRCS has recently produced the City of Richmond Guide for Newcomers. The Guide is a major resource for recently arrived residents in Richmond, which provides a wealth of information to help them successfully settle in the community, and become involved in civic and community life. The guide complements the BC Government’s ‘Provincial Newcomers Guide’, by localizing important information for new residents, and making the information accessible and relevant to their settlement in Richmond. The Guide will soon be available in Chinese.
