Partners for Climate Protection
The Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program is a group of Canadian municipalities and regional governments working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced in their communities.
The program consists of the collection of emission inventory, development and implementation of a local action plan to reduce emissions and the monitoring and reporting on community progress. The City of Richmond joined the PCP program in 2001.
Climate Change
Climate change is a term used to describe the climatic consequences of increased warming of the Earth's surface as a result of the accumulation of greenhouse gases.
Potential impacts:
- sea levels rise and increased flooding risk to coastal and low-lying areas;
- more extreme weather events, including greater intensity and duration of storms, floods, landslides, and droughts;
- diminished water supplies;
- diminished fishery resources as a result of warmer oceans and rivers;
- permafrost thawing and decreased stability of Northern utilities; and
- increased incident of disease as a result of declining air quality and increased populations of pathogens and organisms, (i.e. bacteria, viruses and parasites).
What You Can Do
The actions of individual Canadians account for 28% of all of Canada's greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions can save on energy costs.
