Environmental Project Guidebook

cover.jpg (9223 bytes)Overview
The purpose of the Richmond Environmental Project Guidebook is to identify beneficial environmental projects, which Richmond residents and community groups may wish to voluntarily undertake.

The guidebook was developed in partnership by the City of Richmond, the City's Advisory Committee on the Environment, Kwantlen College and Richmond Connections, a non-profit society which provides information to and promotes volunteerism among citizens and non-profit organizations in Richmond.

Potential projects are grouped under various environmental areas of concern. Project ratings are included to identify the level of commitment required, both with respect to the number of hours involved and the amount of resources needed. In addition to describing potential projects, each section also includes a discussion on what has been happening in Richmond and the benefits and challenges of each area of concern.

Benefits
We hope hoped that Richmond residents will undertake the identified projects and in doing so continue to:

  • Share the responsibility for environmental stewardship,
  • Enhance their environmental awareness, commitment and capabilities,
  • Incorporate environmentally responsible activities into their lifestyles,
  • Build an effective environmentally responsible culture.

Considerations When Choosing a Project
Use the ratings to decide if the project is right for you. If you like the project and are unable to give the full commitment, consider partnering with another group or taking on a smaller version of the same project. As several of the projects overlap into other sections, it may be possible to combine several smaller projects to form one big project. The contact numbers will provide you with useful information that will help your project progress. It is important that you take the necessary steps to complete your project properly (i.e. contact the necessary agencies that should be involved). Do not hesitate to contact the references provided. For more information on the projects, please contact the sources listed at the back of the guide.
