Please be advised that the City of Richmond has adopted amendments to the Zoning Bylaw that allows a single secondary suite within a single-family detached home. However, for a secondary suite to be legal, it must be inspected and upgraded to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code requirements for secondary suites and all applicable City bylaws. Please note that secondary suites are not permitted in duplexes, town homes (except in a few site specific zones), or apartments. Please refer to the Zoning & Development Bylaw 8500 for detailed information.
