Road Safety
Speed Watch
![]() |
The purpose of the program is to educate drivers and promote safer driving habits, by encouraging all drivers to slow down. Through the use of electronic reader boards, drivers receive instant feedback of the speeds they are traveling, as well as reminders of the posted speed by placement of signs indicating the allowable speed in the zone they are monitored.
Not only does this encourage drivers to slow down, it serves to remind them of the posted speed in many areas that have lower speeds that 50Km/Hr.
Volunteers track the number of speeders, their speeds, and a number of other qualifiers. This information is forwarded to the Traffic Section of the Richmond R.C.M.P. and is used to assist in prioritizing enforcement efforts.
