Driving Security Tips

  • If you have a garage, use it and keep it locked. If you don't have a garage or if away from home, park in well lit open areas, and if possible in a parkade with an attendant.
  • Always lock your doors.
  • Use an anti theft device.
  • Have an immobiliser installed.
  • When parking your vehicle, remove your stereo and or GPS if you can. If you can't, engrave it with your BC Driver's License Number.
  • Store a flashlight or flare in your trunk, use them if you have mechanical problems. If someone stops, ask them to call for assistance. Do not get out of your vehicle.
  • Never leave the key in the ignition and never leave your car unlocked.
  • Always check your car before getting in - someone may hide in the rear seat. Carry a small flashlight to help you check at night.
  • Never hide an extra key anywhere in your car, thieves are familiar with all the hiding spots.
  • Never pick up hitchhikers, never hitchhike.
  • Before you get to your destination, put all valuables in the trunk, not on display in the car. However, when shopping do not load up the trunk and walk away. If necessary, drive your car around the store and park in a different spot.
