Inside the Home

Home Security Tips:

  • Have your computer CPUs bolted to the desk or floor.  Store computer backups in a different location from the computer.
  • Change locks upon moving into a new residence.  Make sure all house keys are accounted for.
  • Have a non-traditional hiding place or Safety Deposit Box for valuables.
  • Rehearse your Emergency Evacuation Plan with your family members.  For more information, contact the City of Richmond's Emergency Programs at 604-233-3333, or see Before an Emergency.
  • Install an adequate number of smoke detectors (one for each level of your home).  For more information, contact the Richmond Fire Department at 604-278-5131, and visit the Fire Safety pages.
  • If you have a pet entrance, make sure it is not accessible to people.
  • Post all emergency and neighbours telephone numbers by the phone.
