Carbon Monoxide Safety
Sources of Carbon Monoxide in the HomeCarbon monoxide is an invisible, poisioning, odourless gas created when fuels such as natural gas, heating oil, wood, coal, propane, gasoline, diesel fuel, butane and methane are used for heating and cooking in our homes. Other sources of carbon monoxide in our homes is motor vehicle exhaust from vehicles running in attached garages, gas lawn mowers, generators and pressure washers running near open windows or vents.

Residents can protect themselves against carbon monoxide poisoning by taking the following steps:- ensure that you have properly installed venting in the home
- maintain heating and cooking equipment
- refrain from running vehicles in attached garages
- refrain from operating engines or barbeques near open windows and vents
- install Carbon Monoxide detectors on each level of the home
