Strategic Plan
City of Richmond Fire-Rescue Services Strategic PlanStrategic Plan Provides a Clear Road Map
Richmond Fire-Rescue has released a Strategic Plan (Phase 1) for 2007 - 2008 that outlines the department's future goals and objectives. The department's new plan - its first ever - provides clear direction to guide Richmond Fire-Rescue's operations.
The Strategic Plan defines four strategic goals:
- Organizational Culture
- Strategic Management
- Relationships
- Innovation
The plan also lists specific objectives in each of these four areas. For instance, one of the objectives of Organizational Culture is diversity. The Strategic Plan identifies the need to change recruitment, hiring and testing practices in our effort to increase an understanding of the value of diversity among Fire-Rescue staff.
Richmond Fire-Rescue is currently holding Information Sessions to launch a Spring hiring campaign. For more information, please refer to the Fire-Rescue's Hiring & Job Requirements.
Overall, fourteen objectives are defined, each with a number of action items.
The Strategic Plan was developed through extensive consultation with community members, City of Richmond staff, external agencies, and employees within Fire-Rescue. The wide range of participants provided a variety of views and ideas that guided the development of a solid plan for the future.
The Fire Chief will provide City Council with reports on the progress of Fire-Rescue's Strategic Plan. The two-year plan will be evaluated on an ongoing basis and will be updated within two years.
