Seniors Week 2017 June 5-11– Celebrating Canada

Seniors Week commends and recognizes the contributions seniors bring to their community. This year’s theme of “Celebrating Canada” encourages seniors to connect and celebrate with community members while engaging in new activities that promote healthy and active aging. During Seniors Week, many free and low cost activities, along with transportation, are available at community facilities City-wide.

The goals and objectives of Seniors Week are:

• To recognize and honour seniors in Richmond
• To highlight the positive contributions that seniors are making in our community
• To promote an understanding of and encourage positive attitudes towards seniors
• To promote healthy and active aging

Seniors Week in Richmond

Monday, June 5
Opening Ceremony—Celebrating Canada
Enjoy performances from notable Canadian and local performers including musician Rick Scott and comedian Mavis Pickett.  Light refreshments will be served in the lobby of the Gateway Theatre before the opening ceremony, doors open at 9:00 a.m.  Registration required. Memory Lane
Celebrate special moments of life in Canada by creating a memory board complete with unique mementos collected and brought from home. Don't miss striking a pose at the onsite photo booth and enjoying some traditional Canadian refreshments. Registration required.

Nature Walk

Portraits of City Centre

Celebrating Richmond Seniors 90 years and over. The Journey of a Black Loyalist Family to Rural Nova Scotia
Explore the history of the Black Loyalists in Canada through the story of the Jackson Family. Presented by Carmen Lake,  a descendent of Black Loyalists that came to Nova Scotia in the late 1700s. Transportation is available, where indicagted, for some events to and from Cambie, City Centre, Hamilton, Minoru Place Activity Centre, South Arm, Steveston, Thompson and West Richmond community centres. Transportation cost is per event $3.00.
