Richmond Hosts Celebrated Author as Writer-in-Residence

16 January 2012

Caroline AddersonThree like-minded Minoru Park organizations are sharing the honour of presenting Richmond’s first Writer-in-Residence, Caroline Adderson, the celebrated author of two internationally published novels (A History of Forgetting, Sitting Practice), two collections of short stories (Bad Imaginings and Pleased To Meet You), and three books for young readers (Very Serious Children; I, Bruno and Bruno For Real).

Through February and March, the Richmond Arts Centre, Minoru Place Activity Centre and Richmond Public Library will host a series of free public events, each a unique opportunity for Caroline to engage with the community at-large in a meaningful, interactive setting.

Local writers and readers are invited to a special Residency Launch on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Minoru Place Activity Centre to enjoy short readings, hear about her writing career and learn about the programs she will present during her two months in residency: Workshops for ESL Writers, Parent-Preschooler Writing Groups and Manuscript Consultations. This event will be followed by a short reception with light refreshments served.

Caroline’s work has received numerous prize nominations including the Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist, the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Rogers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. A two-time BC Book Prize (Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize) and three-time CBC Literary Award winner, Caroline was also the recipient of the 2006 Marian Engel Award for mid-career achievement. Her latest novel is The Sky is Falling. Find out more at www.carolineadderson.com

This residency program is presented with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts which last year invested $24.3 million in writing and publishing throughout Canada.
