Wood Chips Flying in Steveston

Lumber Jack Show StevestonThe Great Canadian Logger’s show continues Tuesday in Steveston as part of a special program showcasing Richmond’s culture, commerce and heritage to the world.

Log booming along the shores of the Fraser River is a familiar site in Richmond and some of the traditional skills used by loggers and boom tenders will be on display again Tuesday, February 23 in three free shows at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Fisherman’s Park in front of the Gulf of Georgia in Steveston. Thrill to the action as battling camps compete in log rolling, axe throwing and more.

It’s just one of many attractions this week in Steveston as the historic maritime village wraps up a monthly long celebration of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
A month-long series of events and spectacles include:
  • The popular Steveston Artisans Market is open through February 24..
  • February 23 and 24 enjoy a rare opportunity to see one of the world’s two remaining Martin Mars water bombers conduct fly by water scoop and drop demonstrations at Garry Point Park.
  • Throughout the month savour the bounty of BC farms and fisheries as Steveston restaurant serve up dishes showcasing local ingredients.
  • Retail stores are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
  • Historical sites are open seven days a week in February.
