Return of Winter Showcase Highlights the Best of Richmond's Arts and Crafts
19 January 2012Experience some of the best of Richmond’s arts and crafts in a vibrant showcase of work from the Richmond Art Centre’s Resident Art Groups on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre located at 7700 Minoru Gate.
Presented by the City, this free event will feature a diverse display of work created by the Creative Jewellers Guild of British Columbia, the Richmond Gem and Mineral Club, the Richmond Photo Club, the Richmond Potters Club, the Richmond Weavers and Spinners and the Textile Arts Guild of Richmond (TAGOR).
Following the success of a similar event in 2011, these groups decided to band together to continue the tradition. The event is an example of Richmond’s continuing efforts to showcase the talents of local artists. It also provides an opportunity for arts organizations to work cooperatively to raise awareness of the arts.
“Get your mind, creativity and fingers flying,” says Vikkie McLeod of TAGOR. “Explore the world of textile arts – from quilting, wearable art and embellishment, to needle felting, garment making and more. Meet our members who enjoy advancing their craft and serving those in need, as well.”
This same enthusiasm applies to the other disciplines featured at the Richmond Resident Art Group Showcase. Here is your chance to watch demonstrations of pottery wheels and hand building, engage with beautiful photographs and the finer techniques of weaving and spinning, and glimpse at the mysterious world of gems and minerals.
The arts are an essential and integral part of our social fabric, enhancing people’s health and wellbeing at both the individual and community level. For more information about this event and other events supported by the Richmond Arts Centre, call 604-247-8300.
