City Facilities Returning to Regular Service
2 March 2010
The end of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games means the end of road closures and resumption of public access to some community facilities that was limited during the Games period.
Road closures along River Road, Hollybridge Way and Minoru Boulevard that were instituted during February ended on Monday, March 1.
Regular hours of service resumed at the Richmond Cultural Centre and Richmond Public Library in Minoru Park on March 2. Richmond Arts Centre programming will move back into the Cultural Centre beginning Monday, March 8.
Teardown of the overlay for the Richmond O Zone is in full swing. Full access to the public parking lots at Richmond City Hall is expected to be restored by Saturday, March 6.
The restoration of full access to Minoru Park playing fields and parking lots and removal of security fencing is also expected to be completed by this weekend.
Holland Heineken House is scheduled to vacate the Minoru Arenas this weekend. Ice will be re-installed during the following week and it is anticipated that partial, if not full access to the arenas will again be available to the public beginning Saturday, March 13.
“We know many regular users of Minoru Park and its facilities are eager to have their normal access returned,” said Dave Semple, General Manager, Parks and Recreation. “It takes some time to remove the infrastructure required for a major event and to restore services and operations. We are working as quickly as possible to complete this process and ask everyone’s patience for a few more days.”
