Bring Your Christmas Tree Back to Nature This Weekend at Garry Point Park

Richmond residents are encouraged to support local charities and Mother Earth by returning their Christmas tree for recycling this weekend at Garry Point Park.

Christmas trees can be dropped off for recycling from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, January 8 at Garry Point Park. This special tree chipping event is sponsored by the Richmond Firefighters’ Society, City of Richmond, Richmond Fire-Rescue, Fraser Richmond Soil and Fibre, Steveston Harbour Authority, Super Save Group and BC Plant Healthcare. Donations are greatly appreciated and will go to Richmond Firefighters’ Society’s charities.

Christmas trees can also be recycled at two other locations:

  • City of Richmond Recycling Depot, 5555 Lynas Lane (close to River Road). The depot is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. – 6:15 p.m. and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Ecowaste, Triangle Road, at the south foot of No. 6 Road. Call 604-277-1410 for hours of operation.
Single-family dwelling residents can also leave their Christmas tree at the curbside for collection on their garbage and recycling collection day. Please cut and bundle the tree into the 3 feet by 2 feet size limit.

Please remove all tinsel from your tree before recycling.

The Recycling Depot is also providing a short term collection event for moulded packing Styrofoam through January 15, 2012, The Styrofoam will be reused for insulation or landscaping material. In order to reuse Styrofoam, it must be clean and in good condition, with no tape, paper, paint or any other foreign objects attached. Styrofoam chips will not be accepted. Please do not put Styrofoam in your blue box or cart as it is not recyclable.
