Richmond Celebrates Winter Festival of the Arts

21 January 2010

Multidisciplinary, multicultural and in a multitude of venues, Richmond’s arts and cultural communities come alive at the second annual Richmond Winter Festival of the Arts, February 1 to March 15, 2010.

“The Winter Festival of the Arts invites residents to discover creative talents in our own backyard, creating meaningful and lasting connections with the arts and each other,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

This six-week long campaign features dozens of arts and cultural evens across Richmond. Experience classical music by internationally acclaimed musicians or be riveted by a historical tale of murder and intrigue at the Gateway Theatre. Celebrate the Year of the Tiger or drop by the studio gallery of one of Richmond’s visual artists. Discover visual and performing arts in galleries, studios, shops, restaurants and parks.

New this year, the City has partnered with Lansdowne Centre to present shOP ART, a program of five temporary art installations by artists from around the Lower Mainland including Richmond residents, Jeanette Jarville and Keith Lau. And be sure to have your own Games-time experience in the City’s O Zone celebration site, February 12-28, 2010.

Starting in mid-January, residents can pick up a Winter Festival of the Arts brochure at local shops, community centres and libraries. As well, look for “What’s On” advertisements and visit the website at www.richmondwinterfestival.ca with details about all the cultural events.

Presented with the support of Richmond Review and Ming Pao. For a complete schedule and event details visit www.richmondwinterfestival.ca.
