Richmond Celebrates Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will be a free, family-focused, day-long celebration of Canada’s greatest passion, all under the Richmond Olympic Oval’s massive 6.5-acre wood roof.

From special appearances by hockey legends to big screen broadcasts of all seven of Canada’s NHL teams in action to the chance for fans to test out their hockey skills with hours of ice hockey, ball hockey, street hockey and more, it will be one of the largest celebrations of hockey ever held in Richmond.

“Richmond has a rich hockey tradition and we share all Canadians’ passion for the sport, so we’re delighted to be part of this year’s celebrations of Hockey Day in Canada” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This February marks the second anniversary of the thrilling Gold Medal victories of our men’s and women’s hockey teams in the 2010 Games. What better place to celebrate those anniversaries and Canada’s love of hockey than in the premier venue of the 2010 Olympics.”

All attendees will be able to enter to win a trip for two to Japan, courtesy of Westjet and Japan Air Lines. Other highlights include:

  • Appearances by NHL legends, including Trevor Linden, other Vancouver Canucks alumni, and Canucks mascot Fin.
  • The Hockey Hall of Fame’s “Legends” exhibit featuring memorabilia, interactive experiences and a number of NHL trophies, including the Hart Memorial Trophy awarded to the NHL’s most valuable player.
  • A giant screen with CBC TV broadcasts of games featuring all seven Canadian NHL teams.
  • An interactive fun zone where fans can test their shooting and other hockey skills.
