12 May 2010

Have you ever heard of cement that doesn’t harden? This is just one of many cool things you will see, play with and discover first-hand at the City of Richmond’s annual Engineering and Public Works Open House.

Come out and join the fun:
Date: Saturday, May 15, 2010
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Location: Richmond Operations Yard, 5599 Lynas Lane
Admission: Free
This festival-like event celebrates National Public Works Week, May 16 to 22, 2010, which recognizes the tens of thousands of men and women across North America who maintain infrastructure and provide important services with quiet dedication to their respective communities on a daily basis.

The Engineering and Public Works Open House is a free family-friendly event that features live music; hands-on demonstrations of excavators, dump trucks, remote control equipment and other heavy machinery; gardening and lawn care demonstrations; high-tech emergency equipment demonstrations; and interactive environmental exhibits.

Children will enjoy the large, sandy play area, face painting and arts and crafts, while enthusiasts of all ages will be delighted by the Show and Shine classic car show sponsored by CUPE Local 394.

With a coupon, kids aged eight and under can enjoy a free hot dog and pop for lunch. The coupon can be found in the Engineering and Public Works Open House newspaper advertisements published in the Richmond News May 12 and the Richmond Review May 13.
