Take a Thrilling Spin Around the Olympic Oval During Winterfest Weekend

Do as the Olympians do and skate around the Richmond Olympic Oval ice during the third annual Winterfest Weekend, which takes place from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 14 and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 15.

Join the Richmond Spirit of BC Committee for the 5th Annual Richmond Spirit of BC Skate on Saturday, February 14 from noon to 2:30 p.m. Other public skate times on Saturday are 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Public skate times on Sunday are 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The public is encouraged to bring their own skates, but there will be free rentals if needed, courtesy of Richmond Centre.

Families can come to the Oval anytime during the 16 hours of free fun. In addition to skating, there is an ice carving display, fine arts exhibition, children’s parade, arts and crafts, amazing interactive sport simulations presented by BC Lotteries, exclusive Olympic merchandise for sale, face painting, balloon artists and much more.

Avoid traffic and parking line-ups by taking transit, cycling or walking to Winterfest Weekend at the Oval. For those driving, there is limited free parking and accessible parking available on a first come, fist serve basis at the Richmond Olympic Oval site. Additional free event parking is being provided by WorkSafe BC at their Richmond location at 6951 Westminster Highway, a short walk from the Oval. Traffic controls and directional signage will be in place on event days to assist in directing patrons to available parking. Traffic on River Road, between Hollybridge and No. 2 Road, will be limited to Westbound traffic only during event times.

For the first time, Winterfest Weekend will be part of the six-week-long, inaugural Richmond Winter Festival of the Arts running from February 1 to March 15, 2009 with dozens of arts and cultural events across Richmond. Visit www.richmondwinterfestival.ca for the complete schedule of events.
