Steveston Celebrated in Poetry and Music
Celebrated Canadian poet Daphne Marlatt will read passages from her classic cycle of poems called Steveston to an evocative soundscape composed and performed by Robert Minden and Carla Hallett, at a special performance at the Richmond Cultural Centre May 6.Marlatt’s voicing, rhythm and imagery combined with rippling music by Minden and Hallett the evoke the sights and sounds of Steveston past and present. Canneries, fishing camps, herons and eagles, the boardwalk, the sea and more are brought to life through music and words. All three are Richmond residents.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate. The entrance fee is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors.
