Community Invited to Shellmont Fire Hall Re-opening
28 September 2009Don’t miss this opportunity to tour one of Richmond’s fire halls and meet your local fire-rescue personnel at a special celebration marking the re-opening of Shellmont Fire Hall Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. located at 9400 No. 4 Road.
The hall recently reopened after seismic upgrades and other improvements were completed. To celebrate, Richmond Fire-Rescue is hosting a fun-filled afternoon, including a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Fire Chief John McGowan, and other dignitaries at 11 a.m.. Other activities include fire hall tours, children’s face painting, a fire truck slide and an opportunity to explore a fire truck.
Watch exciting rescue demonstrations on the 10.3-metre tower and meet fire-rescue’s partners in safety — the Richmond RCMP, BC Coast Guard and BC Ambulance Service, who will be on site with vehicles and helpful safety information. Tasty barbecue fare will be available for a donation to charity.
There will be an exhibition of children’s posters entitled, “What The Fire Department Means To Me.”
The event is free, generously sponsored by South Arm Community Centre and International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF 1286). Other community supporters include Ironwood Plaza’s Tim Hortons, Save on Foods and Boston Pizza.
