Richmond Museum to Host Regional Heritage Fair
April 23, 2009
The communities of Richmond and Delta share more than the riverbanks of the Fraser, and residents of both will celebrate the area’s heroes, legends, milestones and achievements at the seventh annual Richmond-Delta Regional Heritage Fair on Friday, May 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum located in the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate.
This free event features displays, demonstrations and entertainment provided by local museums, historical associations, businesses and multicultural groups, as well as more than 150 students from 15 schools across Richmond and Delta. Students from Grades 2 to 10 will showcase 50 projects to bring history alive for visitors. Four of these students will be selected to attend the second annual Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria during the week of Canada Day, and one student will represent Richmond and Delta at the National Heritage Fair in Ottawa.
The Richmond-Delta Regional Heritage Fair is hosted by the Richmond Museum with support from the Historica Foundation, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, the Provincial Capital Commission, School District 38 (Richmond), School District 37 (Delta), Richmond Heritage Commission, Britannia Heritage Shipyard and Delta Museum & Archives. The event would not be possible without the support of local heritage and community groups.
It is part of the Historica Fairs Program, a national initiative for enhancing Canadian history education by strengthening students’ knowledge of the diversity and uniqueness of our heritage. The Historica Foundation of Canada is a charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadians discover the fascinating stories that make our country unique. Through education programs and authoritative resources, Canadians are connected to our many histories. Visit www.histori.ca for more information.
