Richmond Olympic Oval Ice Returns with May 29th Red, White and Gold Skating Celebration
May 26, 2009
Inspire the return of our Canadian athletes to the Oval by wearing red, white and gold; prize to Best Outfit
On Friday, May 29, 2009 between 6pm and 10pm the public is invited down to the Richmond Olympic Oval to celebrate the return of the Oval ice with a Red, White and Gold Skating Celebration.
Those coming to the Oval are encouraged to wear their red, white and gold gear to welcome Canadian speed skaters back to the Oval. A selection of Speed Skating Canada members will be on hand to sign autographs at the event, training schedule permitting. A Panasonic home theatre system will be awarded to the Best Red, White and Gold outfit.
“Everyone knows that success at the Games begins well before the actual event,” said John Mills, General Manager of the Oval. “It starts with a spark of inspiration, followed by encouragement from others and the tools required to succeed. We hope that this building, and this skating celebration, can provide that to our athletes and all the children that attend.”
In addition to the big prize for Best Outfit, there will be a draw for Oval Memberships and Kids Camp registrations, Starbucks gifts, a live DJ, face painting, Learn-to-Skate demo lessons, and free fitness classes. Canadian Sport Centre Pacific, ActNow BC, and Steveston Minor Hockey will also be participating with booths and activities.
Admission is by donation to KidSport™. Doors open to Oval Members and their friends at 5pm and to the public at 6pm. The first 100 members of the public to gain admission by donation receive a complimentary 1-week pass to the Oval. All children 12 and under are required to wear a Canadian Standards Association approved multi-impact helmet. Skate and helmet rentals will be available at the Oval.
