Richmond Fire-Rescue Unveils Specialized Rescue Pumper Truck
July 14, 2009
Richmond Fire-Rescue’s latest addition to its fleet — the 2009 SVI Rescue Pumper — is one of the most technically advanced fire fighting trucks in the region. It was unveiled today (July 14) at Richmond’s Fire Hall No. 1 with a brief demonstration of the truck’s state-of-the art rescue and water features.
“We customized this vehicle with the latest ergonomically and environmentally-friendly features available for rescue and fire fighting operations,” said Richmond Fire Chief, John McGowan. “It was designed with the future growth of the City in mind, and we are very proud to offer this new vehicle to service the citizens of Richmond.”
Highlights of the vehicle’s many operational features include the on-board computer control of numerous safety features; remote controlled water supply with a high pumping capacity; and a remotely operated, high-power light tower for safe night-time operations.
The vehicle’s most important environmental benefits include the highest existing emissions standards, coupled with a custom-built aluminum body which greatly reduces the truck’s gross weight.
The vehicle was custom manufactured in the U.S. and funded from Richmond Fire-Rescue’s vehicle replacement fund. Fully equipped, it cost $700,000.
