Richmond’s O Zone is Going on Tour

02 July 2009

O ZoneThe O Zone, Richmond’s official celebration site for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, is coming to your neighbourhood. A new community outreach program, designed to raise awareness about the O Zone, was launched July 1 at the Steveston Salmon Festival.

A spectacular free celebration of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the O Zone will overflow with energy and excitement from February 12-28, 2010. The O Zone will be conveniently located in the heart of Richmond’s City Centre, beginning at City Hall’s Meeting House and public plaza through to Minoru Park.

A community celebration and an international destination, the O Zone will provide memorable experiences for all participants. Some of the exciting program elements of the O Zone include the spectacular Ice Gate, by acclaimed Canadian artist Gordon Halloran; the popular Holland Heineken House; and the Main Stage in Minoru Park, featuring performances by international and national headliners as well as local talent, along with Olympic Games competition and other entertainment shown on a huge 43-metre big screen.

Throughout the summer and fall, the O Zone community outreach team will be attending a variety of community events, including the Richmond Maritime Festival and the BC Seniors Games, to provide information on the O Zone.

A full event website will be launched in September. In the interim, you can register to receive updates on the O Zone plans by visiting www.richmondozone.ca. Early registrants on the O Zone website will be eligible to win an O Zone VIP prize package, including exclusive passes to O Zone events and a gift basket of 2010-themed merchandise and apparel.
