Richmond Olympic Oval Shortlisted For International Award

The Richmond Olympic Oval is once again in line for a prestigious international award. The World Architecture Festival Awards has shortlisted the Oval in the Structural Design category.

“The City of Richmond is proud the Oval’s innovative design and features are being recognized world-wide,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The Richmond Olympic Oval is a testament to the vision and hard work of all involved in bringing this magnificent building to life.”

The World Architecture Festival Awards celebrate the work of the international architectural community. Winners will be announced Friday, November 6 in Barcelona, Spain.

The Oval has already won several accolades over recent months, including the distinguished Innovation in Architecture Award of Excellence from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Institutional Design Award from the BC Wood WORKS!/Canadian Wood Council, the Green Building Practices Award from the Globe Foundation and World Green Building Council and the Sustainability Star from the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). The Oval has also been shortlisted for the Best of Canada Award by Canadian Interiors Magazine and both the Sports or Leisure Structure Award and Sustainability Award by the Institute of Structural Engineers.

About the Richmond Olympic Oval
The Richmond Olympic Oval is a breathtaking venue built and owned by the City of Richmond. The close collaborative effort put forth by City staff, architects Cannon Design and structural engineers Fast + Epp has made the Oval the premier venue of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
