Newcomers Guide Helps Orientate Residents
23 September 2009The creation of a central resource will make things easier for new residents of Richmond. The City of Richmond Newcomer’s Guide provides clear, accurate and accessible information about the city, municipal government and the services provided by different organizations.
“As the gateway to BC, Richmond is a very diverse community, with new people coming to live in our city everyday,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This guide will help welcome them to Richmond and direct them to the resources available.”
Whether people move from Vancouver or Vietnam, the guide is valuable to all Richmond newcomers and includes information on how residents can get involved in civic and community life.
“Producing the guide was a joint effort of individuals from the community, members of the Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee and the City of Richmond,” said Lawrence Lim, Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee member and Chair of the Newcomer’s Guide sub-committee.” The Newcomer’s Guide brings the committee one step closer to fulfilling our vision for Richmond to be the most welcoming, inclusive and harmonious community in Canada.”
The Guide is printed in English and Chinese to better serve the city’s diverse make-up.
