Funding for the Richmond Museum Society

16 April 2009

Alice Wong, MP for Richmond, announced a federal grant of $12,000 for the Richmond Museum Society. This grant was made on behalf of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

The Richmond Museum Society will host its 2nd annual "Doors Open Richmond 2009" festival from May 2-3, 2009 in Richmond, BC. The festival is in celebration of its culturally diverse local artists including First Nations, immigrants and the established local community as well as its cultural and historic facilities. Some of the planned events being featured are performing and visual arts, heritage and historic tours, and cultural and educational forums. All activities are accessible, inclusive, open to the public and free.

“Remembering and learning from our heritage helps to unite Canadians together”, said Wong. “The origin of Richmond is rooted in its fishing and farming communities. The Richmond Museum is one of many great places to discover the depth of Richmond’s history. This grant will help the Richmond Museum Society promote culture and heritage for Doors Open Richmond 2009.”

The Richmond Museum Society was established in 1961 and is a non-profit society whose mandate is to develop and maintain a community museum that collects, documents, researches, preserves and interprets objects of historical and cultural significance to the development and history of Richmond.
