Richmond Appoints New Fire Chief

04 March 2009

The City of Richmond has announced the appointment of John McGowan as Chief of Richmond Fire-Rescue effective immediately.

McGowan had been serving as a Deputy Fire Chief, with responsibility for administration and technology, since joining Richmond Fire-Rescue in October, 2008. McGowan has over 25 years of experience in fire fighting and most recently was Assistant Chief of Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services from 2004 to 2008.

“John’s experience is extensive and he is very well respected,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “He will provide leadership that will see Richmond Fire-Rescue continue to provide an excellent working environment, while maintaining its position as a leading edge department in fire prevention and suppression and emergency response.”

McGowan will lead a strong management team that includes Deputy Chiefs Ron Beaman and Kim Howell.
