Celebrate Asian Literature and Theatre in Richmond

Join us for a special literary reading and discussion May 27 with acclaimed author Xu Xi, and enjoy an evening of mini-theatre and question period with Neworld Theatre, and Ronin Wong.

XU XI is the author of six books. Her latest is Overleaf Hong Kong a collection of stories and essays of the Chinese overseas published in 2004. Novels include The Unwalled City, Hong Kong Rose and Chinese Walls; fiction collections are History’s Fiction and Daughters of Hui. She also compiled and co-edited City Voices and City Stage, the first comprehensive anthologies of Hong Kong English prose, poetry and drama, and was regional editor for the second edition of Routledge’s Encyclopedia of Post Colonial Literature. She teaches on the faculty of the prestigious Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing program. A Chinese-Indonesian native of Hong Kong, she now inhabits the flight path connecting New York, Hong Kong and the South Island of New Zealand.

Neworld Theatre creates, produces and tours new plays that reflect multiple facets of Canada’s diverse populations. Cited by the National Post and the Globe and Mail as one of the companies driving the renaissance of independent theatre in Vancouver, Neworld is a mobilizing intercultural force in the local independent art scene. Ronin Wong has worked in theatre, film, and music for almost 20 years. He has over 50 theatre, film, and television acting credits including a number of guest star appearances, supporting and lead roles. Other highlights include two instrumental CDs Inspirations and A Comet's Tale, and sound designs for theatre.
