Wild Things Happening at Richmond Nature Park

20 October 2009

During the Middle Ages common knowledge held that newts were born within fire. The belief originated from the newt’s fondness for living under the bark of old wood. When their homes were gathered up as firewood, they were carried along, only to scurry out of the hearth when conditions grew suddenly hot.

On Saturday, October 24 stories such as these, together with a healthy dose of honest facts, will come alive at the Richmond Nature Park. Enter the twilight world of Wild Things and see a lively interpretation of some of your favourite Halloween stories. Like the myth of newts that breed in fire, many of these stories began as early attempts to explain some of nature’s mysteries.

Along the boardwalk trail costumed interpreters will emerge from the woods to share the tales of wildlife while hundreds of jack-o-lanterns cast a mysterious glow through the forest. A professional magician, and a children’s storyteller will spin their magic within the Nature House while pumpkins provided by Bob Wright Farms will be available for carving by donation.

Coast Capital Savings has generously sponsored Wild Things, enabling the Richmond Nature Park Society to stage this event for free.
