Richmond Fire-Rescue is Recruiting

In October 2007, the City of Richmond received approval from the BC Human Rights Tribunal to give hiring preference to women and visible minority candidates who meet fire fighter testing standards and all other selection criteria. This provision is valid through 2010. The intention is to fill as many vacancies as possible with women and visible minorities; however, all applications will be accepted and considered.
This strategy reflects the department’s continuing objective to build on an already strong commitment to serve the community and further build a workforce representing Richmond’s diverse cultural makeup.
Every fire fighter candidates will go through comprehensive testing, including extensive psychological and physical testing. All potential candidates will have to meet the same rigorous standards to become a fire fighter, regardless of gender or ethnicity.
Attending the January 21 information session is not a requirement for applying. To be considered for this competition, submit your resume and a completed fire fighter application form, quoting Competition #2009-F-01, no later than 5 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2009. Applicants are welcome to bring their resume package the night of the information session. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted, but all applications will be kept on file for one year.
