Last Opportunity to Skate Olympic Track at Richmond Olympic Oval
24 November 2009
The Richmond Olympic Oval is offering the public one last chance to skate a gold medal lap at its “Celebration of Ice” before the Oval closes to be prepared for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Join the Olympic Mascots for a public skate on Sunday, November 29 from 12 – 8 p.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval located at 6111 River Road. Admission will be half price, and there will also be off-ice activities including mini-golf, a bouncy castle and floor ball, temporary Oval Kids Tattoos, games and prizes.
Tickets to the “Celebration of Ice” are available online at www.richmondoval.ca or in person at the Oval. All youth aged 12 and under must wear a CSA-approved multi-impact hockey helmet. Skates and helmets are available for rent, but only extremely limited numbers. Please bring your own skates and helmet if possible to avoid the long line-ups that are expected.
The Oval will close to the public on December 1, 2009 to allow the 2010 Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) to prepare for hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Plans for the Richmond Olympic Oval’s post-Games community legacy will see the facility re-open on April 1, 2009. It will be an international centre of excellence for sports, health, and wellness, offering a complete range of sports medicine and wellness services, a 23,000-square-foot fitness centre, and multi-functional space on the Activity Level which will accommodate ice, track, and court users. In addition, the Richmond Olympic Oval will provide a state-of-the-art indoor paddling tank and studio space for group fitness, yoga, cycling, and rowing.
