Cambie, Williams Railway Crossings Closed this Weekend
06 August 2009Richmond, BC – Motorists are reminded of road closures over the next two weekends, as the City and CN Rail crews jointly rehabilitate three major railway road crossings, as part of this year’s annual maintenance program.
On Saturday, August 8, Williams Road at the railway crossing east of Shell Road will be fully closed from 6 a.m. to midnight.
On Sunday, August 9, Cambie Road at the railway crossing east of Shell Road will be fully closed also from 6 a.m. to midnight.
A third crossing, Steveston Highway, east of Shell Road will be closed Sunday, August 16, from 6 a.m. to midnight. Motorists are asked to avoid the areas and take alternate routes. Local traffic will have access to their properties, but not through the crossings.
Work includes cutting the asphalt, repairing ties and rails and the repaving. The repaving is limited to the immediate area of the crossing, but is a precursor to scheduled maintenance later in the year. Steveston Highway, from Shell Road to No. 5 Road, and a portion of Cambie Road are slated for roadwork later this summer as part of the annual road maintenance program.
The city is responsible for the costs of the paving portion of the project on the Cambie and Williams crossings, while Translink funds the paving of the Steveston Highway crossing, as part of the major road network program. CN Rail funds all repairs to the railway. The total budget for the city for all three crossings is $75,000.
