Two Confirmed Fatalities in Aircraft Crash in Richmond

10 July 2009

Shortly after 10 p.m. on July 9, a twin-engine Piper Navajo struck the ground behind a building in the 1200 block of Vickers Way in Richmond. The Richmond RCMP, Fire-Rescue and Emergency Health Services responded to the scene. The Transportation Safety Board will be taking charge of the investigation.

At this time police can confirm two fatalities, believed to be the sole occupants of the aircraft. There were no persons injured on the ground.

The immediate area has been secured from the public, and Bridgeport Way will be opened for vehicles at approximately 12:30 a.m. The scene does not pose any danger to the neighbourhood; however, the immediate area is still not completely safe for first responders. To avoid traffic congestion, police are asking the public to avoid the streets in the area unless essential. This incident does not pose any impacts to the operations at the Vancouver International Airport.
