Island City, By Bike Tour Returns

29 May 2009

Celebrate cycling and Richmond’s island nature by joining the 9th annual Island City, by Bike tour, Sunday, June 7, hosted by the City of Richmond and the Richmond Community Cycling Committee.

Island City, by Bike is a free, annual event that takes advantage of Richmond’s excellent and extensive bike trail network to raise awareness of the benefits of cycling for fitness and fun. This year will feature 19 km and 7.5 km rides, both of which will start and finish at West Richmond Community Centre, 9180 No. 1 Road.

The short route will travel out to the West Dyke Trail via Railway Ave. and Williams Rd., while the longer one will head out to Terra Nova and return via Railway Ave. and the West Dyke Trail.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a pre-ride bike and helmet safety check. The 19 km ride will depart at 11 a.m., while the 7.5 km ride departs at 11:30 a.m. Both rides reconvene at West Richmond Community Centre to enjoy refreshments and a raffle prize draw. Tour leaders will be conducting the rides, so participants only need to bring bikes, helmets and a sense of humour and adventure in the off-chance it rains.
